Charity Agent Arrested

Sometimes it takes just one person to ruin a good cause.

Sellathurai Jeyanesan, an agent for the non-profit aid organization VeAhavta, was arrested in Sri Lanka last week for sexually assaulting the orphans that his aid agency is supposed to help. On top of these heinous allegations, the charity organizer is accused of embezzling money that was supposed to help the orphans and elderly that rely on VeAhavta.

Not all charities are run by well-meaning people. Watch out who you donate your money to! Here’s the details from Cal Coast News:

Sri Lankan Police arrested the overseas agent of the VeAhavta charity, founded by San Luis Obispo attorney Eric Parkinson, for sexually assaulting orphans.

On August 9, Sinhala police arrested Sellathurai Jeyanesan (also known as Salvaduri Jeyanesan) on a charge of “sexual attacks on Tamil girls,” according to the Sri Lankan Watch. “Furthermore, he has still unaccounted millions which he raised in the name of a church in the United States, Europe, and Israel.”

Parkinson said previously his association with Jeyanesan prompted him to convert an abandoned hotel into an orphanage in 2001. Jeyanesan managed the orphanage while Parkinson raised money to fund the charity.
