No Waivers Please

This has just been a mess.I’ve gotta say I agree with this author writing for Freeze Dried Grey Matter.

Everyone – with any sense of dignity and justice applauded when Al Franken had an amendment added to the Defense Appropriations Bill that said companies like KBR could not make people sign a waiver not to sue if they are raped.

This should have been a slam dunk deal.  Who – in their right mind – could be for allowing women to be raped with no recourse for justice?

First, there were the 30 Republican Senators who voted against the amendment.  Yes, they voted in favor of allowing companies to continue their pro-rape stance.  Before we go any further, I think it is only fair that we list the 30 legislators who believe rape is okay.

  • Alexander (R-TN)
  • Barrasso (R-WY)
  • Bond (R-MO)
  • Brownback (R-KS)
  • Bunning (R-KY)
  • Burr (R-NC)
  • Chambliss (R-GA)
  • Coburn (R-OK)
  • Cochran (R-MS)
  • Corker (R-TN)
  • Cornyn (R-TX)
  • Crapo (R-ID)
  • DeMint (R-SC)
  • Ensign (R-NV)
  • Enzi (R-WY)
  • Graham (R-SC)
  • Gregg (R-NH)
  • Inhofe (R-OK)
  • Isakson (R-GA)
  • Johanns (R-NE)
  • Kyl (R-AZ)
  • McCain (R-AZ)
  • McConnell (R-KY)
  • Risch (R-ID)
  • Roberts (R-KS)
  • Sessions (R-AL)
  • Shelby (R-AL)
  • Thune (R-SD)
  • Vitter (R-LA)
  • Wicker (R-MS)

Even the US Chamber of Congress lobbied against the Franken amendment.  A lot of wealthy, high powered poeople out there who think rape prosecution is a joke.

Now we are hearing that yet another Senator may be joining their ranks.  In a move that could cause some major problems, the Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Committee, Hawaiian Democratic Senator Daniel Inouye may soon remove Franken’s amendment from the bill.

Now why would these people even vote against this?? I feel that companies do owe loyalty to their employees, and are obligated to protect them if needed. This amendment shouldn’t even be necessary. This should just be common sense on the part of…well, everybody, really.

Shame on these Senators for not making sure organizations like KBR get their comeuppance when something like rape happens under there watch. Shame on them.
