Over sixty children from a predominately black summer camp were asked to vacate the premises of the Philadelphia Valley Swim Club. The camp had previously contracted the club for use of its pool for the children attending the camp. They paid good money to the club, but apparently it wasn’t good enough. The Valley Swim Club disinvited the campers when they realized that they would be black children, saying that the campers “would change the complexion… and the atmosphere of the club.”
What decade are we in? I know that racism isn’t completely dead here in the States, but I thought we had moved past this. This kind of attitude is absolutely barbaric and shouldn’t be tolerated.
