Often our elected leaders don’t act they way they should, despite their prestigious positions. Positions of trust and honor. America’s people vote for a person because they feel that the person will uphold those values and can act with the good of the people in mind.
Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. As the saying goes “Absolute power corrupts absolutely”. While perhaps the men and women in Congress didn’t have absolute power, or perhaps they aren’t corrupted “absolutely”, it is still all too common to hear of the power they do wield being abused.
This fall, Business Insider put together a list of the most corrupted members of Congress:
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a left-leaning watchdog group, has released its annual report on the most corrupt members of Congress.Of this year’s list of 15, at least 12 are under investigation and several, like adulterer Sen. John Ensign and tax evader U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel are under pressure from some to resign.
“With the economy in a free-fall, unemployment rates at record highs and health care solutions still nowhere in sight, members should be spending their time looking for answers to the nation’s problems, not finding new ways to enrich themselves,” said Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW.
